Hoses

A hydraulic hose is three parts doing three jobs: an inner tube holds the fluid, a reinforcement layer carries the pressure, and a cover takes the abrasion. What a hose can and cannot do is set by that middle layer — how the wire or yarn is laid on, and how many layers there are.

That choice fixes three properties at once, and they pull against each other: working pressure, minimum bend radius, and weight. More reinforcement buys pressure but stiffens the hose and adds weight; a lighter hose that bends into a corner gives up pressure or fatigue life. The SAE J517 100R series and the EN 853 and EN 856 families name those constructions, which is why hose is specified by type, not by a bare pressure figure.

Where it's specified

  • Braided hydraulic hose — one or two interlaced wire braids; moderate pressure, tight bend radius, easy to route and crimp
  • Spiral hydraulic hose — four or six wound wire layers sharing load evenly; high pressure and hard pressure cycling
  • Thermoplastic hoses — plastic core and cover, light, abrasion-resistant, non-conductive constructions available
  • Matching the ends — construction dictates the crimp, and a hose is rated only as an assembly with its fitting and die

Range and materials. The sub-ranges below cover rubber and thermoplastic inner tubes, steel wire and fiber reinforcement, and abrasion- or weather-rated covers. Sizes follow the dash convention, one dash being 1/16 in of inside diameter, with ends crimped to JIC, ORFS, SAE flange, NPT and metric.

Ordering notes. Size on inside diameter and flow, then check the minimum bend radius against the route: bent tighter than its rating, a hose fails in the reinforcement long before the tube gives up. Rate the assembly by its weakest element and derate where fluid runs hot. These ranges are still being stocked, so ask us for availability and lead time.
