Quick Disconnects
A quick disconnect coupling lets a line be broken and remade by hand. A sleeve on the female half releases a ring of locking balls so the halves pull apart, and as they separate a valve in each closes on its seat so neither side empties. Pushed together again, the valves open each other and flow resumes.
Two valve designs dominate, and they do not interchange. Flat-face couplings to ISO 16028 close on a flush face that wipes clean with a rag, losing almost no oil on disconnection and admitting little dirt or air on reconnection. Poppet couplings to ISO 7241 series A and B use a cone-and-seat valve set back in a recess: cheaper, stocked everywhere, and what most agricultural remotes are built around, at the price of a small spill each time and a recess that traps grit.
Where it's specified
- Frequent implement changes — attachments come on and off in minutes with no threaded joint to break
- Clean and indoor work — flat-face halves wipe down between connections, keeping oil off the floor and dirt out of the oil
- Farm equipment remotes — ISO 7241 A and B poppets match the tractors and implements already in the yard
- Lines that trap pressure — oil warming in a disconnected hose can lock a coupling solid, so plan for connect-under-pressure capability or a way to bleed
Range and materials. Couplers, plugs and matched sets in plated carbon steel and stainless across the common body sizes, with NPT, SAE straight thread and BSP port ends, nitrile or fluorocarbon seals, and dust caps.
Ordering notes. Specify by interchange standard and body size first, since an ISO 7241-A half will not couple to a 7241-B of the same nominal size. Decide whether the machine needs connect-under-pressure capability and how residual pressure gets relieved, and allow for the pressure drop a coupling adds.
